Louis XV style French Gilt Table Clock
Louis XV style French Gilt Table Clock
This late 19th century clock is is superb condition, having just been totally restored back to it’s original condition. It comes with the original velvet and gilt plinth, and an original glass dome (not a replica).
The clock is of a drum style, with guilt figures each side, depicting a rural scene, the boy with a plough and the girl with a lamb. The guilt top sits on an alabaster base, with brass adornments. The top rural scene and drum have been re-guilded using gold flake wax to bring back the beauty of this piece. The white enamelled dial has Roman numerals and is in good condition except for a chip below the winding hole, the hands are original.
The movement is a French drum movement, that has been fully stripped, cleaned, inspected for wear, and finally oiled. A full service, giving this clock the possibility of another 100 years of use, with regular servicing by a horologist.
The dome is original, again late 19th century, the base has had a minor repair, and has been re-ebonised to give it it’s original lustre back.
This is a large impressive piece, that would be a great focal point to any room, oozing grandeur and opulence.
