Oak Grandmother clock with Westminster chime
Oak Grandmother clock with Westminster chime
Here we have a recently restored German Grandmother clock.
The old scratched and tarnished dial has been artfully replaced with a new dial in keeping with the age of the clock, the bezel has been re-polished and lacquered, to give the clock a fresh look, as if it has just come out of the factory.
The pendulum has been re-silvered, again to bring the clock back to its prestige condition.
The movement is of German manufacture and is stamped DRGM 989568, this stands for "Deutsches Reiches Gebrauchs Musterschutz" - meaning protected patented design under the Reich Government. This German organisation was only operational between the two World Wars, therefore the clock is circa 1920s.
The movement has been serviced, and will be good for the next 5 years (when it should be serviced again).
The clock chimes on the quarter hour with a lovely Westminster Chime, and strikes the hour.
The difference between a Grandmother and Granddaughter clock is 5’, Grandmothers are taller, Granddaughters are shorter…
The case is antique oak, of a utilitarian design of that period.
