Ting Tang Oak Mantel Clock
Ting Tang Oak Mantel Clock
Totally restored, this Oak mantel clock, has a ting tang movement that strikes on the quarter hour.
Ting Tang movements, have two hammers, they both strike the quarter hour, 2 for quarter past, 4 for half past, 6 for quarter to, then a single hammer strike for the hour.
This movement was manufactured by Winterhalder and Hofmeier in the Black Forest, I would estimate during the latter part of the 19th century. The company was part of the Black Forest clockmaker industry as its factory was located in Titisee-Neustadt and surroundings and as it subscribed to high quality standards. The company existed until 1933. It is regarded as one of the finest Victorian clockmakers of the time.
This clock has been totally restored, the following work has been carried out:
Movement stripped, cleaned, inspected for wear, rebuilt and oiled.
Mainsprings removed, inspected, cleaned then greased
Case has been stripped, cleaned, French Polished, and waxed
Dial has been re-silvered, using traditional methods
Bezel and pendulum have been polished and lacquered
The clock is back in it’s original condition and looks stunning, with a gentle chime (see video), it would be perfect for any mantelpiece or side table.
